About the author

Avishay Ben Eli

Writer and artist. Gay man in his fifties. The person women trusted with the debrief, what felt exciting, what felt unsafe, and what the man across the table never understood.

Make the Move brand photography

For most of his adult life, women Avishay loves as friends have trusted him with the debrief, what actually happened after the restaurant, after the drink, after the man went home believing the evening had gone one way while she had lived through another.

He heard what felt exciting, what felt unsafe, and what the man across the table never understood. After enough years, those stopped being stories and became a pattern.

Avishay's authority isn't built on claiming experiences he never had. He's a gay man writing for men who date women, and his seat at the table is unique: from one side, he knows the fear in the chest personally; from the other, he's heard decades of what she said afterward.

Mission

Anti-pickup. Pro-courage.

Make the Move is an anti-pickup book. No scripts, no games, no pretending to be someone else. Just the lost skill nobody teaches anymore: noticing the moment, crossing the room, saying something true, and leaving warmly when the answer is no.

Story

From the man women call after the date

“The gender changes; the committee does not.”

That dual perspective, personal experience of desire, hesitation, and rejection as a man, plus decades hearing what women said after the date, is what makes this book different from every pickup manual on the shelf.
